60’s Beauty trend

25th Jan 2013

For S/s 13 several designers took inspiration from the 1960’s- Holly Fulton and Prada refrenced flower power, Marc Jacobs channelled Edie Sedgewick and over at Louis Vuitton he opted for 60’s geo prints and patterns. Hair and make-up at the shows also took a retro turn. Skin was fresh and youthful with soft kohl eyeliner the focus of the make-up. For hair the beehive made an apperance all over the place with ribbon bows or alice bands to add that nostalgic touch.

Adele, Lana Del Ray and Sophie Ellis Bextor are all known for their signature retro beauty looks.

Ohhh and this week I spotted an early adopter of the trend over at B-Town. Anushka Sharma’s wowed at the Filmfare awards with her beehive and retro liner which was right on trend (as was her canary yellow Victoria Beckham gown)

And talking of B-Town I had to take share some imagery of Asha Parekh, Helen and Sharmila Tagore working the trend the first time around.

Pernia’s Pop Up: Menswear launch

22nd Jan 2013

This week sees the exciting launch of a Menswear section on Pernia’s Pop up. I’m always blabbing on about this cool as e-tailer, their accesibly priced edit of the hottest Womenwear labels and big designer name diffusion lines (think Manish Mahlotra & Sabyasachi at a fraction of their usual retail price) is sooooo on it for the young modern Indian woman. I’m sure the Menswear section will prove just as popular and with the likes of Atsu’s bold prints, Raghavendra Rathore’s sharp take on the traditional and Nimish Shah’s perfect basics there’s something for all tastes.

Sabyasachi Blogger-in-chief at Vogue India

16th Jan 2013

I’ve been loving the new look Vogue India website- especially the behind the scenes videos. January feature’s a film on their Space Odyssey fashion shoot and a short interview with this month’s cover girl Vidya Balan. Vidya looks gorgeous although if the mag was really pushing the shape issue it would have been good to see a full shot of Vidya on the cover- showing off those curves!

Well back to the reason for the post- Vogue India.Com latest fash offering made me ohhh and ahhh- Sabyasachi has been named Blogger-in-Chief for the month and has kicked off with the designer interviewing himself! It’s a fabulous spotlight and the illustrations that accompany the interview are just beautiful! I had to share them with you. Read the interview here

Bridal inspiration: The white gown

15th Jan 2013

We’re only two weeks into the New Year and we already have a hot trend alert! White/nude gowns have been spotted all over recent award ceremonies- the Golden Globes, Zee Cinema Awards, People’s Choice Awards and the Colour’s Screen Awards. Definite bridalwear inspiration me thinks!

esha gupta dior

Esha Gupta in Dior. Love this gown and her up do and red lips work so well.

taylor swift

Taylor Swift in Ralph Lauren. This is one simple yet beautiful look.

Chitrangada Singh Roberto Cavalli

Chitrangada Singh in Roberto Cavalli

deepika nk

Deepika Padukone in Naeem Khan. I love the metallic embellishment.

Aditi Rao Hydari Gauri & Nainika

Aditi Rao Hydari in Gauri & Nainika. I like the fact the full skirt is in a sheer fabric which I personally thinks better than the full skirts in silk that look too meringue-like!

hayden panettiere

Hayden Panettiere in Roberto Cavalli. Jessica Biel opted for pink for her wedding dress and this pretty gown is the faintest hue of pink. Would you go pink? – it also looks like the fishtail is making a come back.

jlo golden globes

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad. This is by far my favourite look! she looks stunnnninnng and its her curves that make the dress!

Which is your fav style?

Friday Fives: Beauty

11th Jan 2013

This week’s Friday fives are my last five beauty purchases. I haven’t written many beauty posts and the reason’s simple- I am pretty clueless when it comes to make-up and ridiculously unadventurous in trying new trends. Ummm I’ve only just got my head around BB creams and the beauty/fash packs according to the glossies have moved on to CC creams? I might have heard of CC creams but do I know what they really are or which is the best? Nope- not a clueeeeee. Well seeing as it’s a new year I am going to try to master some eye shadow colours that aren’t gold or bronze and to whack on a bright lippy now and then. (I made a start- look below!)

11 jan 1

Burt’s Bees lip balm. It’s full on ugghhh winter in London and I alternate between Burt’s and Carmex.

M.A.C Ruby Woo- it is true this shade really does suit every skin colour (check out the video I made with make-up artist Dipali Damji on how to apply bright lippy here)

Shahnaz Husain Shamoist Plus Intensive Moisturising- I recently tried out a sample of this product and found it really soothing on my dull winter skin so have just ordered it online.

11 jan 2

M.A.C Hanging Loose Dirty Pink Nude. I thought I’d get on the S/s 13 nude nails bandwagon. I like this easy shade from M.A.C’s Apres- Chic collection.

Rimmel Exaggerate Eyeliner. I’ve been using this eyeliner for years. The long nib makes it super easy to use and perfect for adding a retro flick and unlike some other brands the colour stays a true black on dark skin too.

Wear me 3 ways : Crystal Evolution

10th Jan 2013

I’m introducing another blog post topic for 2013- Wear me 3 ways. I love all those articles in the glossies that show you how to restyle items in your wardrobe and thought I’d give it a go too! I know this would prob work better if I did a post of me wearing the outfits but what can I say- I’m a little camera shy! I’m ok having my pic taken if I’m with other people (that’s why you’ll find a couple of pics of me at events on facebook or here) but posing on my own for a photo just makes me feel AWKWARD!

For my first post I’ve chosen this dreamy ACNE Silverbright necklace by Crystal Evolution to style three ways. The brand is only being introduced to U.K stockists now and is already huge in the U.S where fans include Taylor Swift, Kim Kardasian and Scarlett Johansson.

Selfridges: A hundred years of Windows.

8th Jan 2013

I’m a costume drama kind a girl. It stems from my teenage obsession with Catherine Cookson and Bronte books. Soooo you name it any BBC/ITV period drama that airs- I’m watching it. I loved the first episode of Mr. Selfridge on Sun and the ohhhh-ahhhh moment came when the first window displays were unveiled. At the time they caused a stir and continue to do so- my favorite in recent years was the Louboutin take-over. Here’s a quick post on some of the Selfridges windows over the years.

MY TOP THREE INDIAN FASHION SHOWS

It was an exciting year for Indian fashion in 2012 and here’s my fav three catwalk shows of the year.

I adore Sabya’s work and the collection he showed at Delhi Couture Week simply took my breath away. To read more click here.

1st Jan 1

2nd PLACE: NAMRATA JOSHIPURA

1st Jan 2

3rd PLACE: RETARDED VELVET

Both WIFW and Lakme Fashion Week have really championed new talent this year and Retarded Velvet are one of my fav new ‘ones to watch’ there print ROCK. To read more click here.

1st Jan 3

MY TOP THREE TRENDS

There were many trends in 2012 and I’ve struggled narrowing the selection down to my fav three. What do you think of my choice? would you have opted for something else?

1st PLACE: PEPLUMS

Everyone went peplum mad in 2012 (including me!) the super flattering style was worn by many celebs and these three looks are gorg.

1st Jan 4

L-R Neha Dupia in Victoria Beckham, Esha Gupta in H&M & Sonam Kapoor in a Jelin George skirt.

2nd PLACE: LONG GOWNS

Ohh there were soooo many red carpet events this year and these stunning gowns really made a mark!

1st Jan 5

L-R Anushka Sharma in Roberto Cavalli, Deepika Padukone in Gaurav Gupta & Frieda Pinto in Alexander McQueen.

3rd PLACE: POP ART PRINT SARI

The sari got a big injection of fun this year with these fun pop art prints which celebs went mad for.

1st Jan 6

L-R Hazel Keech in Aarti Vijay Gupta, Soha Ali Khan in Masaba Gupta, Sonam Kapoor in Surendi by Yogesh Chaudhary.

MY TOP THREE STYLISH INDIANS

1st PLACE: SONAM KAPOOR
Sonam has been wowing us with her stylish looks for the last few years and her 2012 choices have been amaaziiingg! Not only has this gorg lady been flying the flag for fashion at home but outside of India too. How amazing did she look at the Elie Saab show in a Deepti Pruthi sari? I also love the Anamika Khanna draped sari pant look she’s been championing recently, this girl knows how to start a trend!

1st Jan 7

L-R Anamika Khanna, Unknown, Deepti Pruthi, Cavalli

2nd PLACE: SAMEERA REDDY

Sonam had better watch out because Ms Reddy is hot on her heels! Her fashion choices before 2012 were suspect and I’m guessing there’s a rather talented stylist behind her fashion transformation but regardless of the reason- one things for sure she looked HOT in 2012. I LOVE the fact she’s supported Indian fashion labels this year from Shivan & Narresh, Kallol Datta, Nishka Lulla and newbies Huemn.

1st Jan 8

L-R Shivan & Narresh, unknown, AM:PM, Shivan & Narresh

3rd PLACE: DEEPIKA PADUKONE

Deepika always looks good but this year it just seems like she’s stepped it up a gear. Her off duty style of oversize tees, skinnies and chunky jewellery always works and her red carpet choices have been YUM. The red Gaurav Gupta gown, the green Gauri & Nainika gown and the stunning Dolce & Gabbana gold skirt all get an A* from me.

1st Jan 9

L-R Sabyasachi, Gauri & Nainika, Abu & Sandeep & Dolce & Gabbana
