SONAM KAPOOR: DOLLY KI DOLI

23rd January 2015

I’m sooooo looking forward to seeing Sonam Kapoor’s Dolly Ki Doli this month. Her character in the film is a con artist who marries different men and then runs away with their money- So that’s a whole lot of weddings outfits in one film- fash overload!!! not that I’m complaining, it’ll be the main reason I go to see the film. The posters show her in a stunning blue Anita Dongre lengha as well as a mint and coral Jade lengha but the outfits in the Babaji Ka Thullu are OMG. She looks Amazeballs in Manish Arora and her male co-stars look pretty good too.

Spotlight: Pernia Qureshi @ Paris Haute Couture Shows

11th July 2014

Some people just got it going ON and Ms Qureshi is certainly one of those. She ALWAYS looks soooo effortlessly chic- I met her last year and I asked her about her style tips and her top tip ladies…is to always be well groomed- make sure the basics are right- get yourself waxed/threaded, good brows are a must, take care of your skin/hair, manicure/pedicure etc….(Looking at my chipped nails as I type this makes think uhh ohhh!)

Ms Qureshi was out and about this week in Paris for the Fall/Winter Haute Couture shows- here are some pics from her Instagram account looking yum in Indian designer creations. She’s incredibly passionate about Indian designers and her online store has really shaken up the Indian e-tailer scene. I love the fact she continually scouts new designers giving them a platform for their work.

My fave look is Pernia in Anita Dongre. It’s so simple, so classic and really chic.

All the outfits above are available to buy from her online store Pernias Pop Up Shop

Ok so I’m off to find my nail polish remover…

Champagne, Canapes and Couture Evening at Faisana Weekend

16th May 2014

Over the last bank holiday I attended the wonderful Champagne, Canapes and Couture evening @ Faisana Weekend. The event was held at the luxurious Crystal Room at the Mayfair Hotel with a show by designers Anita Dongre Rina Dhaka & Bhairavi Jaikishan and Pakistani designers Umar Sayeed, Nida Azwer and Sania Maskatiya as well as a performance by Fasih Rehman.

Sania Maskatya

Loveddd the Sania Maskatya collection- the African inspired prints were gorg.

I have to say a big Congrats to the teams involved in the event-it was a fab evening and my fave part? Getting to chat to the ah-mazing Anita Dongre.

Anita Dongre

I asked her how she got involved with the event.

Radhika wrote to my team and I thought it was a great idea-an event with three Pakistani designers three Indian designers that have never really sold in London. So it was just a good to be a part of and to dip my toes into the London market.

and on that note I had to ask her if she had any continued plans in London.

Honestly, as a brand and as a company we are always looking to open new stores and we are considering a store in London. It’s maybe a year away….I’m hoping to come over with my other brand Global so not really ethnic.

Anita Dongre, Faisaina

Which area gives you the most pleasure designing?

So when I’m sitting on the drawing board for AND and Global Desi its great fun they are high street brands and I get a different kind of pleasure designing those two labels but the bridal market is luxury and its not bound by prices as much so maybe that is like my most luxurious de-stresser and I enjoy that the most because I’m not limited by cost, I just want to make a beautiful lengha- I want it to be light, I want my bride to enjoy it and I’m not doing it with a price point in mind.

Anita Dongre

Which bridal trends are you championing this season?

Since a few months I showed at Lakme fashion week and I showed the bandi, and its been accepted beautifully.I’m showing a couple of Bandi pieces today…showing how you wear it with a gown, showing how you wear it with the lengha, my clients have bought it with a palazzo pant and saris so its something that I put it on the ramp and I’ve told my fashion consultants on store to educate the customer and I love the way that todays young Indian woman is realising that she can invest in pieces but can get more out of them. I don’t even price a bridal lengha as one price which people are amazed so I price the choli or the bandi separately, the lengha seperately, the dupatta separately,so that my consumer comes in and buys any garment she wants and dresses it up or dresses it down

Me with the oh sooo talented Pakistani designer Umar Sayeed.

I’ve heard on the grapevine that following the success of the event the organisers are planning on bringing more talent over for a series of events like this one!

Thanks to Shahid Malik for the fab pics

Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2012: Top 5 Trends

16th Sept 2012

I’m soooo late posting my trend report for Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012. I had started a while ago but it’s taken me ages to pick out five key trends. I blame it on the fact that overall (even though there were flashes of originality- Debarun Mukherjee’s and Yogesh Chaudhary’s are perfect examples.) I found this season’s shows a little flat and lacking in newness. Nonetheless I have picked out my favourite trends for the new season.

By way of Istanbul

Several designers looked to the Middle East for inspiration, playing with traditional Moorish tile prints and a rich palette of Cobalt, Azure Blue, and spicy Saffrons. Anita Dongre’s and Debarun Mukherjee’s collections were especially dreamy.

Top L-R Debarun Mukherjee, Anita Dongre, Priyadarshini Rao
Bottom L-R Anita Dongre, Tanya Sharma, Debarun Mukherjee

Traditional Weaves

Surface Embellishment took a back seat this season as designers worked with traditional weaves. Beautiful examples of Ikat, Benares and Kanjeevaram were present and showed evening wear doesn’t need heavy embellishment to look rich.

Top L-R Neeta Lulla, Khushboo & Prem, Gaurang Shah
Bottom L-R Gaurang Shah, Anita Dongre, Payal Kapoor

Tutti Fruitti

Yep, I really did name a trend Tutti Frutti! The mixing of fuchsia, yellow, cyan and orange just works and is fabulously Indian. So be bold this season and work this striking rainbow of colour.

Top L-R Payal Singhal, Mayank Annand Shraddha, Neeta Lulla
Bottom L-R Wendell Rodricks, Swati Vijaivagie Jain, Deepika Govind

Sheer/Layering

Layering was a key trend and the looks that were built up with sheer overlays were more successful and flattering than the heavier layers seen at Nandita & Anurahdha

Top L-R Payal Singhal, Nandita & Anurahdha, Vaishali Shadangule
Bottom L-R Roma Narsinghani, Nishka Lulla, Ruchika Sachdeva

Head to Toe Prints

Head to Toe prints were a huge S/s 12 trend over at the big four’s fashion weeks and they’ve filtered over to LFW. Napur Kanoi’s and Yogesh Chaudhaury’s take were bold and beautiful.

Top L-R Kallol Dutta, Yogesh Chaudhary, Napur Kanoi,
Bottom L-R Napur Kanoi, Pia Pauro, Yogesh Chaudhary

Key Shapes to watch out for include: Structured jackets, 7/8th Trousers, Jumpsuits, Maxi dresses & Shirtdresses and a micro trend which will filter through is fringing which was seen at Jatin Varma, Pia Pauro, Pankaj & Nidhi

Anita Dongre: LFW Winter/Festive 2012

10th August 2012

I’m slowly making my way through the yumminess of LFW and am sharing my favourites from the week. Anita Dongre’s collection is up there in my top three (you can tell I love it as I couldn’t even limit the post to a few pics!) The collection had a Turkish/Middle Eastern feel with its rich colour palette of vibrant oranges, reds, pinks, golds and azure blue- the influence spilled over into the prints with gorgeous Moorish patterns that were beautifully mixed with contrasting prints. The other key trend to note is the use of Benares weaves especially stunning used simply in the maxi dresses. Anita’s an expert on putting a spin on the traditional in her own feminine way and I’ll be coo-ing over this collection for a long time- ! (and don’t get my started on the bridal leghna Preeti Desai wore – WOW! ) Enjoy the pics

Anita Dongre New Bridal Showroom: WOW!

25th April 2012

How stunning is Anita Dongre’s new showroom? Get me on a plane now!!! I’ve really been struggling to find all my Bridal outfits (the Hindu ceremony is with the capable hands of Mira Taylor but the rest I’m just CLUELESS about!) I’ve picked up the latest issues of Asiana and Viya and I liked NOTHING- well I liked bits and pieces but nothing made me think wow- that’s the one I want. Overall I just found the styles featured a little too bling tastic for me and going to India regularly has spoiled me as a lot of the U.K stores are a little slow in catching up with the new trends. Saying that I probably haven’t scratched the surface of what’s out there and I just need to go visit some more stores – or better still get on a plane! (the reason I’ve been a little reluctant of buying Bridal wear in India is that – ready wear doesn’t always work for me, I’m 5’9 (A giant in Asian girl terms!) and I think if I were to get something made I’d want to be there for the full duration in order for fittings and basically to chase the designer to get things done on time and correctly! (I’ve worked in fashion with Indian factories and learnt the lesson ages ago that to get things done you have to chase, chase, chase!) Well looking at the pics I may just have to go over for a few months- such STUNNING pieces!!!

Love, love, love the peach and pink lenghas!
